Duke is a 9-year-old Doberman we rescued from an animal shelter after his owner died. His companion from the home was a 12-year-old very ill pitbull mix female who unfortunately couldn't be saved. So on arrival here Duke was such a lost soul. It was heartbreaking to see him clearly not understanding what had just happened to the life he had known and everything that was familiar to him. We had hoped to make him a part of our "family" of resident dogs while he waited for a home of his own, but he was clearly terrified of the confident pack of residents swarming around him, so he's decompressing by himself and doing the best he can. Other than a number of what appear to be soft old-age growths on his body - none of them very visible - Duke appears to be in good health and active, and he really warms to attention and cuddling from our visitors and volunteers that have engaged with him.
