Dixie was brought into an animal shelter by someone claiming she was a stray dog, which often is not the case, especially if the dog has a medical condition that could be expensive. Dixie had what is known as "happy tail," where the dog injures their long, natural tail, usually by wagging it so hard that it becomes bloody. In her case, this actually exposed the bone. Surprisingly, her animal shelter amputated her tail during spay surgery after her stray hold had expired, thereby making her much more adoptable. After Dixie's time in her shelter had also expired and she faced euthanasia, we couldn't bear to know she would be killed after all she had been through. During her stay with us for the past week, she has been very quiet, sweetly sharing a bed with her male kennelmate, and acting sad, as though her heart is broken because she misses being with someone who once loved her. She's about 6 years old and weighs 64 pounds. ixie
